Parenting is hard work. Sometimes, despite our best efforts our families don’t work together the way that we hoped they would.
The Family Support Program provides parents with practical assistance within the home. The Family Support Worker assists families with a child or young person aged 0-18 years
With a referral from an agency or a self referral, you can access our service and receive help in a professional, confidential, effective and culturally appropriate manner.
Our Family Support Worker can provide information and support to enable positive healthy relationships between family members.
The areas covered by this service include Hervey Bay, River Heads, Burrum Heads, Torbanlea, Howard, Toogoom and Dundathu.
Why Family Support?
Through the Family Support Worker families can obtain information and help with many different kinds of issues including:-
- When a child or young person demonstrates behavioural problems.
- When a family member appears depressed or anxious.
- When people hit, touch or talk to each other in an inappropriate way.
What kind of family can we help?
The Family Support Worker can help all kinds of families with a child or young person 0-18years old, teenagers, one or two parent families or grandparents raising grandchildren.
Offering more positive parenting skills can help people to:-
- Feel better about themselves.
- Communicate more effectively within the family and community.
- Be able to stand up for themselves when they need to.
- Learn to manage stress and anger constructively.
- Experience less depression and anxiety and the physical symptoms associated with them.
