Parent Aide Program
The Parent Aide Program provides in-home assistance and support to parents of children under the age of eight. Those of us who have struggled with rearing children, know only too well what a complex task this is. Skill, patience, and commitment are needed to do the job with any measure of success.
Our in-home volunteers are parents who have experience in rearing children, who then share their knowledge and wisdom while imparting a range of parenting techniques. They offer encouragement and practical assistance as they work with parents who are doing their best but may need support for a limited time.
Volunteers receive extensive training to assist them in their role as parent aides. They also help parents to access both community and professional support if parents identify this need.
This service is for parents who are feeling the effects of one or all of the following:
-
Feeling isolated from family and friends, either emotionally or geographically.
-
Having difficulty establishing & maintaining family household routine.
-
Experiencing grief as the result of bereavement, separation or divorce.
-
Experiencing housing, budgeting or financial management problems.
-
Are disabled or are living with a child or children who are disabled.
-
Have young children who are demonstrating behavioural problems.
- Exposed to or are affected by physical, emotional or sexual abuse.
