Page 1 of 2 Grandparents
In years gone by it wasn’t unusual for grandparents to play a significant role in the lives of their grandchildren.
This was usually in a carer role when parents were working or organising their lives and the grandchildren usually went home at the end of the day.
This gave grandparents time to themselves to rest and recuperate from running after their grandchildren.
The late 20th Century saw the rise of a phenomenon where grandparents were increasingly becoming the primary care givers- providing for every aspect of their grandchildren’s lives.
The Difficult Task Ahead
At a time in your life when you thought you would be resting from the years of work and raising your own family it can be a shock to become the primary carer for a new generation of children.
Your time is not your own, your resources become stretched and you have to deal with sports, school and social life and all the problems and joys associated with raising children.
All when you are tired and lacking energy and the support of other parents who were around when you were raising your own children.
